Still Looking for the Perfect Foam Mattress?

Plain Foam. The cheapest foam mattress in the market is the plain foam.  This is not ideal if you want longer lasting foam, but will do though for short-term use such as putting up a temporary guest when there's no more room.  These can be easily rolled and stored for future use.  If you are planning to use this type of mattress for long periods, expect it to wear out just after a few months.

Coir Mattress.  These days, foam mattresses are no longer categorized as just hard or soft because technology changed the way people look at mattresses.  But for the budget conscious, they still have the option to choose the coir variety, a hybrid that combines foam and coir.  The foam provides the needed warmth whilst the coir keeps temperature low.  These heavy but durable mattresses stay in shape for longer periods.  These mattresses come in different sizes, shapes, and colors too.

Latex Foam.  Latex foam has been getting positive reviews.  Latex is a foam rubber that breathes and maintains the best temperature whatever the season.  It is recommended for children and adults with allergies to dust and mites that invade the household.  Compared to the garden-variety foam, latex foam lasts longer.  This dense foam has holes, hence it easier to handle.  Generally, this type of foam mattress is softer in the upper portion and firm in the lower half.

Memory Foam.  Talk about foam and what comes to mind is softness. The problem with foams though is their inability to stay in shape for longer periods. A part of the foam becomes misshapen because it loses elasticity.  It can be uncomfortable in the long run.  But with the ‘new wave' mattress, the memory foam, the foam follows the contours of the body during sleep.  This invention makes use of polyurethane and some chemicals to increase the foam's depth and thickness.  In simple talk, the higher the density, it molds to warm the body in just a few minutes whilst lower density molds to the body shape upon pressure.

Tempur-Pedic.  The tempur-pedic foam mattress was designed with astronauts in mind.  So what about it?  This foam is temperature sensitive.  The foam becomes softer when the temperature is warm and becomes firmer when the temperature is cooler.  In a room with controlled temperature, the foam performs excellently.  Made of viscous-elastic memory foam, the Tempur-Pedic adjusts to the contours of the body, making sleep comfortable because there are no aches or pains along pressure points.  It is also durable and allergen resistant.

Whatever your type of foam mattress, if you feel the mattress is too firm, you can always remedy this with a mattress topper, and viola you have a warm, soft bed.
